Kobina Nyarko | Tunnel

Painting
Oil on Canvas | 2009

Kobina Nyarko is one of Ghana's premier young contemporary artists. "Tunnel" is illustrative of much of Mr. Nyarko's work in which he explores the symbolism of fish in paintings that feature numerous tiny fish on often large-scale canvases. The swirling, mesmerizing schools of fish captivate viewers and this "trademark" theme makes Mr. Nyarko's work easy to recognize.

Mr. Nyarko’s work is considered to be illustrative of 3rd generation Ghanaian artists, who freely express themselves as artists in a modern world, without succumbing to restrictive notions of African art.
