Mark Nesmith | The Three Graces
Oil on Canvas
The Three Graces, like most of my landscapes, presents the world absent the presence of humans. Here is my Eden before the fall. While I have been influenced by Impressionism, I rarely complete paintings en plein air. Rather I combine field sketches, photographs, and memories of various places and events in the studio. Generally, a single painting is an amalgam of several different places and times. What I seek is the feeling I have when I’m alone with the world, a sense of spiritual communion. The title owes to the Greek goddesses of such things as beauty, charm, and creativity. I find nature to be the source. At four by five feet, The Three Graces is one of my largest landscapes.
