This is one of a serie of paintings called "Fragmented world". Carefully rendered elements are intertwine with blocks and fragments of other images to convey an idea. This is one main characteristic of the "Fragmented world" serie.
This painting explores the idea of laughter shared between a girl and a boy. The image of the boy is more vague, rather obscured, and looking away from the girl. The diagonal structure in the bottom left corner suggest movement, transition. The black colour separating both faces indicates a fragile, short lasting, or even already broken connection. It could be a farewell laughter...
