Shaelin Jornigan | Big Biff (Asphalt and Red Platforms)
Oil on Canvas | 2018
Shaelin Jornigan is an abstract painter from Allbuquerque, New Mexico whose works explore narrative, family, feminism, and intimacy through energetic and colorful forms.
Big Biff (Asphalt and Red Platforms) is one of Jornigan's "Big Biff" series, which depicts embarrassing moments, mistakes and, most importantly, falls. The work is a representation of the artist's own experience falling down on asphalt while running to the restroom in red platforms due to the time pressures of an impending calculus test. After the trauma of skinning both knees, ripping her skirt and nearly wetting her pants, the artist got a D on the test.
